BOSTON – Senior guard
Kendall Currence had 25 points, and three other Huskies tallied double-digits to lead Northeastern women's basketball (11-6, 5-2 CAA) to an 81-70 victory over College of Charleston on Wednesday evening at the Cabot Center.
Currence, who added three rebounds, was light's out shooting, going 10-of-15 from the floor. She was joined by
Claudia Soriano (18 points on 6-of-10 shooting), graduate student
Emily Calabrese (12 points on 6-of-9 shooting), and freshman forward
Asha Parker (career-high 10 points and 11 rebounds).
- Northeastern kicked off the game leading 11-6, highlighted by back-to-back three pointers by Soriano. The Cougars knotted up the score at 13, but Northeastern outscored Charleston 9-4 to take a 22-17 lead into the second.
- The Huskies stormed out to a 15-0 run to start the second, highlighted by seven points from Currence during that stretch. The Cougars did score until the 2:16 mark to cut the deficit to 37-19.
- Currence ended the quarter with back-to-back three-pointers to give the Huskies a 43-25 lead going into halftime.
- Soriano tallied 12 of her points in the second half, to help the Huskies lead by double-digits for the remainder of the game.
- Northeastern notched 21 bench points compared to none for Charleston.
- Parker recorded her first collegiate double-double.
- Junior guard Century McCartney chipped in with eight points.
- The 5-2 start in CAA play marks the first time in program history.
- The Huskies improve to 9-1 at home, and 9-0 at the Cabot Center.
- Northeastern's 81 points is a season-high.
