BOX SCORE (PDF)

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Northeastern women's basketball team (12-7, 6-3 CAA) closed out the weekend in style, tallying its first conference road victory of the season with a 62-50 win over James Madison (9-10, 5-3 CAA) on Sunday afternoon at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.

Freshman guard Claudia Soriano paced the Huskies with a team-high 19 points, and also had five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Senior guard Katie May and freshman guard Gemima Motema also chipped in with eight points apiece.
  • Senior guard Kendall Currence kicked off the game with a layup at the 9:44 mark to give the Huskies an early 2-0 advantage.
  • Northeastern held the Dukes without a field goal until the 4:44 mark, which gave the hosts a 4-2 lead. The teams traded points for the remainder of the quarter, with JMU taking a slim 10-8 advantage into the second.
  • A layup by Motema evened the score up at 10 right away in the second, but the Dukes responded back with a layup of their own.
  • Back-to-back three pointers from May and sophomore forward Izzy Larsen gave the Huskies a 25-18 lead going into halftime.
  • Soriano tallied the Huskies' first seven points in the second half, giving Northeastern a 32-25 lead at the 7:13 mark.
  • JMU responded back with a 7-0 run to trim the deficit to 34-32 at the 3:47 mark, but a jumper by Larsen and Soriano three-pointer continued to keep Northeastern in front.
  • Four straight points by Currence to open the final quarter gave the Huskies a commanding 51-40 lead.
  • A JMU three trimmed the Northeastern advantage's 52-45 at the 4:19 mark, but a May jumper and six free throws by the Huskies put the game back out of reach.
  • Graduate student Emily Calabrese led Northeastern on the boards with nine rebounds, and had four points.
  • Currence and Larsen each tallied seven points, respectively.
  • Northeastern had a dominant effort in the paint, recording 32 points compared to JMU's 18.
  • The Huskies shot 43.6% (24-of-55) and 35.5% from beyond the arc (6-of-17).
