HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.- Senior guard
Kendall Currence tallied a team-high 14 points, but it wasn't enough as the Northeastern women's basketball team (12-8, 6-4 CAA) fell to Hofstra (5-12, 2-7 CAA) by a score of 56-43 on Sunday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports Complex.
- Northeastern stormed out to a quick 6-3 lead in the opening quarter, highlighted by jumpers from Currence. The senior scored nine of the Huskies' 16 points in the first, as Northeastern took a 16-13 into the second.
- Hofstra dominated in the second, propelled by an 8-1 run to start the quarter. A three-pointer by Currence trimmed the Hofstra lead to 21-20 at the 5:56 mark, but the Pride took control the rest of the way, and outscored the Huskies 11-2 to take a 32-22 lead into halftime.
- Both teams struggled offensively in the third, Hofstra outscored the Huskies by a slim margin (7-4), and took a 39-26 lead into the fourth.
- The Huskies went on a 4-0 run to start the final quarter after a layup by freshman forward Asha Parker, and a jumper by Claudia Soriano to trim the Hofstra advantage to 39-30.
- The Pride responded with a 6-0 run to lead 45-30 at the 6:51 mark, and continued to lead the rest of the way to seal the win.
- Sophomore forward Leyla Ozturk and freshman guard Camille Clement chipped in with six points apiece.
- Parker tallied five points and eight rebounds.
- Soriano notched a career-high nine rebounds.
- The Huskies shot 32.7% (18-of-55) in the game.
- Hofstra took advantage of Northeastern miscues, tallying 19 points off turnovers.
