BOSTON – Led by a balanced scoring attack, the Northeastern women's basketball team (8-4, 2-0 CAA) picked up its second conference victory with a 64-51 win over Hofstra (3-6, 0-1 CAA), on Sunday afternoon at the Cabot Center.
The Huskies had double-digit scoring performances from senior guard
Kendall Currence with 13 points, and graduate student forward
Emily Calabrese with 11 points. Five others for Northeastern also recorded 5+ points, highlighted by nine-points from sophomore forward
Izzy Larsen, which tied her career-high.
- Northeastern jumped out to a quick 10-5 lead, and didn't look back in the rest of the game.
- Senior guard Katie May ended a back-and-forth first quarter with an exclamation point, tallying a three-pointer with ten seconds remaining to give the Huskies a 17-12 advantage.
- The Huskies continued to extend their lead in the second quarter with an 8-3 run, highlighted by a Larsen three-pointer to put Northeastern up 25-15.
- The Pride cut the Huskies' lead to four points with a quick 4-0 run to start the third (29-25), but Northeastern responded right back with layups by sophomore forward Leyla Ozturk and Calabrese.
- Larsen capped off a 5-0 run by the Huskies at the end of the third with a layup to give Northeastern a 49-35 lead.
- The Huskies took a 58-39 advantage, the largest of the game at the 6:43 mark of the fourth, after a Calabrese layup and-one play and free throws by freshman guard Gemima Motema.
- Northeastern led by double-digits throughout the final quarter to seal the victory.
- Ozturk was stellar on defense, leading the Huskies with a career-high nine rebounds and chipped in with eight points.
- Motema filled the stat sheet with eight points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Northeastern tallied 40 points in the paint, a season-high.
- The Huskies capitalized on Hofstra's miscues with 24 points off turnovers.
