Delaware Edges Northeastern In A Shootout, 3-2

NEWARK, Del. – The Northeastern field hockey team (3-12, 2-2 CAA) used a big first half to take a 2-0 lead through 30 minutes, but Delaware (6-10, 4-1) would not go away, battling all the way back to tie the game before edging the Huskies in a shootout to knock off the Huskies on Friday night at Rullo Stadium, 3-2.

With the setback, the Huskies move to 2-2 in the CAA standings with two conference games remaining.

• Northeastern struck first midway through the first quarter when Kate Blaisdell knocked home her fourth goal of the season with the Huskies capitalizing on a turnover before Emilia Adragna found Blaisdell on the doorstep for the score.

• The Huskies extended the advantage to 2-0 when they were awarded a penalty corner with no time remaining in the first as Ashley Pappas recorded her first of the year.

• Delaware cut the Northeastern lead in half just three minutes into the second half when Berber Bakermans hammered home a pass from the left side of the cage.

• The Huskies dodged a bullet with five minutes to play in the third quarter when Delaware nearly leveled the game at two with a shot from Julia Duffhuis that hit the post.

• It wasn't until the final minute of regulation when the Blue Hens brought the game back to even, converting on a penalty corner opportunity from Duffhuis to force overtime.

• After 20 minutes of scoreless overtime, it was the Blue Hens who came away victorious in a shootout, 3-2, after Kiki Oudshoorn found the back of the net in the fifth and final round

• Northeastern goalkeeper Jonna Kennedy had six saves on the night, including four in overtime, while Lizzie Gaebel collected six saves for UD.

• Shots favored the Blue Hens in the game, 22-15, while the Huskies generated seven corner chances to Delaware's four.

The Huskies will remain on the road for the weekend, heading to Drexel for a 12 p.m. matchup with the Dragons on Sunday on FloLive.
