Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Harvard Edges Northeastern Late, 70-69

BOSTON – In a game that saw 10 ties and six lead changes, it came down to the final seconds between the Northeastern men's basketball team (0-3) and Harvard (3-1), but a bid from Coleman Stucke at the buzzer wouldn't go, allowing the Crimson to edge the Huskies on Wednesday night at Matthews Arena, 70-69.

It was a neck-and-neck bout all night long, with neither team leading by more than eight points throughout and by no more than a possession over the final 4:45.

Jahmyl Telfort led Northeastern with 23 points, reaching the 20-point plateau for the second time in three games this season, to lead three Huskies in double-figures. Stucke and Harold Woods joined him with 13 points apiece to help make up for the absence of Chris Doherty, who exited the game early with an injury.

Chris Ledlum set the tone for Harvard, finishing with a game-high 29 points on 12-of-17 shooting, while Chisom Okpara collected 10 boards for a Harvard team that shot 50% overall (27-of-54) and 6-of-18 from deep.

The Huskies, meanwhile, were 28-of-69 from the field and 10-of-35 from three while only getting to the foul line three times (3-of-3). The Northeastern freshmen group of Masai Troutman, Chase Cormier, Jared Turner, Rashad King and Collin Metcalf again provided a spark off the bench, combining for 14 points and 14 rebounds.

• The was a half of runs for the Huskies and Crimson, with the teams trading punches before Northeastern went into the locker room with the two-point edge, 32-20.

• Harvard led by as many as seven over the opening 20 minutes thanks to a 7-0 run over a 2:16 stretch, highlighted by a pair of buckets from Justice Ajobor.

• NU, though, responded with an 8-0 run of its own with Cormier and Troutman doing the damage to put the Huskies up by a basket, 17-15, midway through the half.

• The Huskies, which shot 12-of-33 overall and 6-of-21 from deep, used a 13-3 run, including 10 points from Stucke to take its largest lead of the half at 32-24 before the Crimson trimmed it to two at the break.

• It was more of the same in the second half as the Huskies either led or remained tied for much of the final 20 minutes before Harvard took its first lead of the half with 3:46 to go on a jumper from Luka Sakota.

• The Huskies continued to fight, with Telfort scoring the teams final four points to give the hosts the lead with 1:54 to play, 69-68, but a dunk from Sam Silverstein seconds later closed out the scoring.

The Huskies will head back on the road to battle Syracuse on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. from the JMA Wireless Dome. The game will be aired live on the ACC Network.
