SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse (2-1) used 44 points in the paint and shot 53% from the floor en route to a 76-48 win over the Northeastern men's basketball team (0-4) on Saturday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome.

Northeastern, playing without
Chris Doherty due to an injury, fought to manage Syracuse's size throughout the contest. The Huskies stayed in the game for most of the first half thanks to timely shooting from three with five different players converting from deep. NU finished the game 8-of-32 from three.

NU shot 32% overall, with 11 players finding the scoring column and had a season-high 16 assists on 19 made baskets. The Orange, meanwhile, were 32-of-60 from the floor and 6-of-14 from deep. Joseph Girard led SU with 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting and was joined in double figures by Jesse Edwards (19 points, seven rebounds) and Judah Mintz (18 points, five assists).

• Syracuse took control early, opening the game 4-of-4 from the floor to start out with a 9-0 lead before a pair of threes from
Coleman Stucke and one from Chase Cormier cut the deficit back down to three before the under-16 timeout, 12-9.

• Northeastern continued to launch during the first half, going 7-of-19 over the opening 20 minutes to stay within striking distance for most of the half, including one from Harold Woods that brought the Huskies back within a possession with 6:12 until the break, 26-23.

• SU, though, closed the half on a 13-2 run with seven points coming from Edwards to give the Orange a double-digit lead at halftime, 39-25. Edwards finished the half with 13 points on 5-of-5 from the floor and 3-of-3 from the line.

• Syracuse would go on to shoot 16-of-31 in the second half to steadily increase the margin.

Northeastern will travel to England for the first-ever London Basketball Classic next week. The Huskies will take on Manhattan in the semifinal game at 12 p.m. (ET) on Thursday.
