BOX SCORE (PDF)

ST PETERSBURG, FL.- Sophomore guard Gemima Motema tallied a team-high 14 points, but long-range offense was the difference as the Northeastern women's basketball team (2-4) fell to UW Green Bay (3-2), by a score of 56-46, on Friday afternoon at the McArthur Center.

Motema also notched six rebounds and an assist. Junior guard Derin Erdogan also highlighted the Huskies with 13 points on 6-of-17 shooting to go with three rebounds, and three assists.

The Phoenix shot 35.2% (19-of-54) in the contest, and 43.3% (13-of-30) from three. The Huskies struggled offensively for most of the day, shooting 34% (16-of-47) and 11.1% (2-of-18) from beyond the arc.
  • UW Green Bay kicked off the scoring in the contest with a three, but that was its only lead of the quarter.
  • Picking up right where she left off after a stellar performance at Maine, junior forward Deja Bristol put the Huskies' offense on her back. After a three by graduate student forward JaMiya Braxton, Bristol tallied the next six points for Northeastern, propelling the Huskies to a 10-8 lead after one.
  • After struggling from beyond the arc in the first, going 2-of-10, the threes for UW Green Bay began to fall in the second. The Phoenix tallied a three to pull ahead 11-10, and used long-range offense the rest of the quarter.
  •  UW Green Bay went 4-of-15 from floor in the second, and 3-of-6 from three to take a 19-15 advantage at halftime.
  • Both teams traded points in the third, and UW Green Bay continued to be strong from beyond the arc. The Huskies went on a 7-0 run halfway through the quarter to lead 26-25, highlighted by a three-point play from Erdogan, but UW Green Bay responded right back to pull ahead.
  • Northeastern closed the quarter on another 7-0 run, highlighted by a three from sophomore guard Camille Clement, and led 33-31.
  • The Phoenix had a 5-0 run to start the fourth to go up 36-33, but the Huskies responded with a 5-0 run of their own to pull back ahead, 38-36.
  • Down the stretch the teams continued to go back and forth, but long-range offense by UW Green Bay continued to be the story. The Phoenix tallied four three-pointers down the stretch, and they would ultimately seal the win.
The Huskies will face Portland on Saturday, November 26 to close the St. Pete Showcase. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm, and can be watched on FloHoops.
