Murphy, Philips Claim Hockey East Weekly Awards

AMESBURY, Mass.— Graduate student Maureen Murphy and senior Gwyneth Philips of the No. 7 Northeastern women's hockey team earned weekly awards from Hockey East, as announced on Monday. Murphy was tabbed Player of the Week, while Philips was named the Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Week.

Both student-athletes were crucial to the Huskies winning the Smashville Showcase by taking down No. 14 Princeton, 4-1, and No. 9 Cornell, 5-1.

Murphy returned from making her debut with the U.S. Women's National Team and promptly posted a five-point weekend against ranked opponents. Against Princeton, Murphy potted a hat trick, scoring at even strength, shorthanded and on the power-play. She followed up her hat trick with two assits against Cornell. Murphy is third in Hockey East and seventh nationally with 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists), despite playing in just 14 games.

Philips kept her stellar form in Nashville, making 50 saves over two games and allowing just two goals against two top-15 programs. Philips' 16 wins on the season lead all players nationally. She owns a .90 goals against average and .956 save percentage, both tops among all Hockey East goaltenders.

Murphy, Philips and the Huskies are back in action with a two-game series against No. 13 Vermont beginning on Friday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
