CHICAGO – Northeastern's
Jahmyl Telfort (20 points) and UIC's Jace Carter (22 points) went shot for shot in a game that saw the Huskies (3-7) cut a 20-point deficit down to six before running out of time against the Flames (8-4) on Sunday at Credit Union 1 Arena, 81-73.

Telfort reached the 20-point plateau for the fourth time this season on 7-of-14 shooting to lead four Huskies in double figures. He was joined by
Jared Turner (15 points on 5-of-8 from three),
Chris Doherty (10 points, team-high seven rebounds) and
Masai Troutman (10 points) for a Northeastern team that received 49 points from the bench.

The Huskies shot 47% on the afternoon (27-of-58), including a 55% clip in the first half, and went 10-of-19 from three, hitting at least 10 three-point field goals for the second time this season.

Not to be outdone, UIC shot 59% in the opening half before finishing 48% overall (29-of-60) and 9-of-23 from three. Toby Okani added 19 points, six rebounds and four assists while Christian Jones also reached double figures with 15 points.

• Northeastern was red hot to start the game, going 9-of-9 overall and 4-of-4 from deep before finishing the half 16-of-28 (57%) and 7-of-9 from long range.

• Telfort for the story for the Huskies, finishing the half with 13 points on 5-of-8 for a Northeastern squad that had 12 assists on 16 made buckets.

• Carter wouldn't be outdone, though, dropping 17 first half points on 6-of-7 from the floor to pace the Flames, who also shot over 50% at 17-of-29 overall and 9-of-14 from three and used a 19-6 run over 5:24 to lead by as many as 10 before the Huskies cut it to five at recess, 46-41, the most points in any half for Northeastern this season.Â

• Both teams cooled off to start the second half, with the Flames holding NU to a 3-of-10 overall through the first nine minutes and using a 9-2 run to lead 62-49 with 11 minutes to go.

• UIC took advantage down low as the half wore on, scoring 24 points in the paint to lead by as many as 20 at the Under-8 timeout.

• Northeastern wouldn't go quietly, though, as Turner and
Harold Woods went to work from three to trim the deficit down to as little as six with 1:25 to go.Â

The Huskies will close out the non-conference slate on Wednesday when Northeastern travels to Davidson for a 1 p.m. tipoff on ESPN+.
