BOSTON – Jahmyl Telfort had a career-high 31 points and the Northeastern men's basketball team (5-7, 1-0) went 12-of-21 from three-point range en route to an 88-76 win over North Carolina A&T (5-9, 0-1) on Thursday night at Matthews Arena.

Telfort, who scored 20 of his 31 points in the first half, finished the night 10-of-17 overall (5-of-7 from deep) and 8-of-9 from the line to lead Northeastern to its highest scoring night since Dec. 30, 2019.

Telfort was flanked by
Chris Doherty, who finished with 19 points (14 in the second half) and a game-high eight rebounds and was a team best 7-of-9 from the stripe. As a team, the Huskies got to the line 31 times, the most since Feb. 13, 2020, going a season-best 22-of-31.

Northeastern, which won its CAA opener for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons, was 27-of-53 from the floor to finish above 50% overall for the first time this season.
Coleman Stucke added 13 points off the bench on 4-of-5 from deep, including three clutch buckets in the second half.

A&T, meanwhile, received 23 points from Kam Woods to lead three Aggies in double-figures (Duncan Powell, 17; Marcus Watson, 12). North Carolina A&T was 50% overall (28-of-56) and 3-of-13 from three.

• Northeastern couldn't be stopped in the first half, going 17-of-32 overall and 9-of-14 from long range to open a 14-point halftime lead, 45-31.

• Telfort hit from inside and outside throughout the half, dropping 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting (5-of-6 from three), recording at least 20 points in a half for the second time in his career.

• After the Aggies held a slight lead early, Northeastern took over with a 14-6 run to go up double-digits with 12 minutes until the break and maintaining at least a three-possession lead for the remainder of the half.

• A&T cut into the deficit early in the second half with an 11-4 run to make it 51-44 Huskies before a flurry of fouls sent both teams to the line for the remainder of regulation.

• Doherty went to work for Northeastern over the final 20 minutes, scoring 14 of his 19 points on 4-of-7 shooting and 6-of-7 from the line.

• After the Aggies cut it to as little as four with 5:30 to go, a quick 8-2 Northeastern run, with six of those points coming from Doherty, to help the Huskies regain their double-digit lead, before a corner three from Stucke with 52 seconds left put the game out of reach.

The Huskies will be back at home on Saturday when Northeastern hosts Stony Brook at 12 p.m. from Matthews Arena. The game will be nationally televised on CBSSN.
