BOSTON – Trailing by as many as 13 with 13:38 to play, the Northeastern men's basketball team (5-8, 1-1) cut the deficit to two with seven minutes remaining, but ran out of time as Stony Brook (5-9, 1-0) escaped with a 65-61 victory on Saturday afternoon at Matthews Arena.

The Huskies made it a game late, using a 14-3 run to nearly erase the gap, but the Seawolves hit their free throws down the stretch to keep Northeastern from completing the comeback.

Jahmyl Telfort (16 points, five rebounds) and
Chris Doherty (11 points, five rebounds, four assists) were once again the story for Northeastern, both going 5-of-10 from the floor for a Huskies squad that finished 23-of-61 overall and 6-of-30 from three point range.
Rashad King added a season-high nine points and four rebounds.

Frankie Policelli led four Seawolves in double figures with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting with eight rebounds. He was joined by Keenan Fitzmorris (16 points), Tanahj Pettway (15 points) and Tyler Stephenson-Morris (14 points, six assists) as Stony Brook shot 38% (19-of-50) overall and 9-of-26 from long range.

• Stony Brook took advantage of some cold shooting from the Huskies in the first half to take a 31-22 lead into halftime thanks to eight points from Policelli, Fitzmorris and Pettway.

• The Seawolves led by as many as 13 in the half after a 13-2 run over nearly five minutes during which Stony Brook went 5-of-8 from the floor. They finished the half shooting 40% overall and 31% from deep.

• Telfort and Doherty kept Northeastern within striking distance with seven and five points in the half, respectively, as the Huskies went 8-of-24 from the field and 2-of-13 from deep.Â

• Stony Brook kept its lead at double digits for the first 10 minutes of the second half before Northeastern went to work chipping away at the deficit, using a 14-3 run over six minutes to come within two at 45-43 with 7:06 to go highlighted by six straight points from Doherty.

• The Seawolves responded with a 9-3 run of its own to go back up by three possessions before back-to-back threes from
Coleman Stucke made it a two-point game yet again with 1:57 left, 54-52.

• Stony Brook, though, refused to let the Huskies level the score, going 8-of-10 from the line over the final 100 seconds despite tight defense from Northeastern down the stretch.
