BOSTON – Behind a double-double from Alexander Nwagha and 20 points from Jahmyl Telfort, the Northeastern men's basketball team (2-6) used a big first half and never looked back, topping Georgia State (5-4) on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena, 66-46.

Nwagha finished the day with a career-high 15 points and 14 rebounds for his second double-double of the season as the Huskies dominated the glass, 50-24, marking the first time since Dec. 20, 2011 that Northeastern hauled in at least 50 rebounds.

The Huskies, who never trailed in the game, held Georgia State to a 19-of-68 afternoon from the field (1-of-20 from three), the 33rd time in the Bill Coen era that NU has held an opponent under 50 points.

Telfort finished the day 6-of-13 from the field to hit the 20-point plateau for the third time this season and set the tone for a 25-of-58 day for the Huskies overall and 5-of-12 from three. The Huskies also had a season-high 16 assists on 25 made field goals.

Jared Turner and Joe Pridgen also had strong days for Northeastern with nine points apiece with Turner going a perfect 3-of-3 from deep.

• The Huskies took advantage of a 6-of-29 shooting performance from the Panthers to bolt out to a 34-17 halftime lead. Telfort led all scorers with 12 points on 3-of-6 from the floor for a Northeastern squad that outrebounded GSU 29-7.

• NU used a pair of 9-0 runs to take control of the game in the opening half kickstarted by a thunderous dunk from Harold Woods to get things going. Northeastern shot 42% (13-of-31) overall and 3-of-6 from long range.

• It was more of the same in the second half as the Huskies used a 7-0 run to lead by as many as 24 to allow Northeastern to empty the bench down the stretch.

The Huskies will be back in action next Saturday when Northeastern hosts Holy Cross for a 2 p.m. tip at Matthews Arena on NESN and FloHoops. Tickets are available by visiting NUHuskies.com/tickets
