Huskies’ Hot-Shooting Defeats Harvard, 73-64

BOSTON – The Northeastern women's basketball team (4-6) shot 64.4%, including 50% from three as the Huskies bested local rival Harvard (5-5), 73-64, on Monday night at the Cabot Center.

Northeastern, who led the entire game, made 29-of-45 shots, including 6-of-12 from three, and outrebounded the Crimson 33-23.
 
Sophomore guard Camille Clement was one of four Huskies to score in double-figures, tallying a career-high 12 points. Junior guard Derin Erdogan led all players with 21 points, while sophomore guard Gemima Motema and junior forward Deja Bristol added 15 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Northeastern got off to a hot start, taking a quick 7-0 lead thanks to a three from freshman guard Ariana Webb and layups from sophomore forward Asha Parker and junior forward Halle Idowu.
  • The lead grew to as much as eight at 19-11 after a Motema jumper with just over two minutes left in the first, but Harvard hit a pair of threes to cut the deficit to 19-17 heading into the second.
  • The Huskies dominated the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 25-12, propelled by shooting a blistering 9-of-14 (64.3%) from the floor, including 8-of-10 (80%) from two.
  • Erdogan scored 11 of her points in the second quarter, as she picked it up on 5-of-6 shooting.
  • Motema also added eight in the stanza, as she was perfect from the field (2-for-2) as well as from the free throw line (4-of-4).
  • Overall, Northeastern shot 12-of-10 (63.2%) in the first half to lead 44-29.
  • Erdogan continued to pace the Huskies in the third, knocking down five straight points to extend the advantage to 49-34.
  • Clement added to the lead in the final three minutes of the quarter with a layup followed by a three, ultimately putting the Huskies up 58-42 heading into the fourth.
  • A Clement jumper with 8:53 to go gave NU it's largest lead of the game at 64-42.
  • The Crimson, though, trimmed the deficit to single digits in the final frame, outscoring the Huskies, 22-13, but ultimately Northeastern held on for the win.
The Huskies will return to the court at Stonehill on Tuesday, December 20. Tip-off is slated for 6 pm, and can be watched on NEC Front Row.
