NEWARK, Del. – The Northeastern men's basketball team (7-17, 1-12) overcame a slow start to overtake Delaware (16-8, 7-4) with less than 13 minutes to play in regulation, but an 11-0 and 15-2 run for the Blue Hens through the rest of regulation sent UD past the Huskies on Thursday night at Carpenter Center, 74-61.

Glen McClintock was strong off the bench for the Huskies, tying a career-high with 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting along with three assists and two steals, while
Jahmyl Telfort led the way with 18 points (5-of-14 from the field) for the visitors. Northeastern shot 40% in the game (21-of-53), 8-of-21 from three and outrebounded UD 33-26.

Delaware put four players in double figures on the evening, led by 22 from Kevin Anderson (9-of-13 overall). He was joined by Jameer Nelson Jr. (18 points), Andrew Carr (14 points, seven rebounds) and Jyare Davis (12 points) for a UD squad that was hot all night, finishing 33-of-55 overall (60%) and 6-of-14 from beyond the arc and dropped 50 points in the paint.

• Delaware came out firing, hitting nine of its first 14 shots to lead by as many as 12 in the opening seven minutes of the game, including a 10-0 run over four minutes with four points coming from Anderson. Anderson finished the half with 14 as UD shot 60% overall (18-of-30) and 40% from deep.

• Northeastern wouldn't go away, though, using a 13-5 run over less than five minutes to climb back within a possession before the Blue Hens went into the locker room up 38-33. Telfort led the Huskies with a dozen on 3-of-6 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the stripe. NU was 12-of-24 in the opening 20 minutes and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.

• The Huskies went to work right out of recess, opening the second half on an 11-2 to take its first lead of the evening with 15:55 to go.Â

• Delaware, though, took advantage when Doherty got into foul trouble, setting off an 11-0 run to steal the advantage right back, one it wouldn't relinquish.

• The Huskies hung in through the under-8 timeout, cutting the deficit to as little as four points with 7:24 to play, but a 15-2 run from there put the Blue Hens up for good.
