CARY, N.C.- Defending CAA Champion Northeastern (0-1, 0-0 CAA) fell 5-3 to Long Island University (1-0, 0-0 NEC)Â on Friday, February 18th in the first game of the Penn State Tournament.Â
- LIU got out to an early lead in the 2nd inning, eventually leading 5-0 by the sixth inning.
- Freshman Justin Bosland was able to get the first hit for Northeastern with a triple during the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Huskies were unable to score in the inning.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Luke Beckstein was hit by pitch while Mike Sirota was able to advance to second pushing Jeff Costello to third.
- With bases loaded designated hitter Corey DiLoreto was able to slam a double scoring three runs lowering Northeastern's deficit to two during the bottom of the sixth.
- Northeastern had four hits this afternoon while LIU tallied five.
- First baseman Jack Doyle tallied ten of the Huskies 27 putouts while catcher Teddy Beaudet recorded nine.
- Cam Schlittler and Michael Gemma each pitched four innings while striking out four batters a piece.
- Owen Langan stepped on the mound to close the game for the Huskies pitching one inning without giving up a run.Â
- LIU was led by Colin Adams and Seth Surrett who make up four of the sharks five runs.Â
Northeastern will play a double-header tomorrow against Monmouth University with the first game slated for 1pm.Â
