HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Jahmyl Telfort and
Chris Doherty scored 22 points apiece to pace a Northeastern men's basketball team (7-19, 1-14) that led by eight with less than two minutes left, but Hofstra (19-9, 11-4) closed the game on an 11-0 run to stun the Huskies on Saturday afternoon at the Mack Sports Complex, 76-73.

It was a career day for Doherty, who finished one rebound shy of his fourth double-double in the last five games, while Telfort recorded a season-best performance on 10-of-17 shooting from the field to go along with five assists.
Jason Strong, meanwhile, added 17 points off the bench on 6-of-10 (5-of-8 from three) to finish one point shy of a career-high.

The Huskies were 27-of-56 overall (48%), 8-of-21 from three and outrebounded Hofstra 37-28, while the Pride went 29-of-61 from the field and 8-of-24 from deep, with six of its eight made threes coming in the second half.

Aaron Estrada led four Hofstra players in double figures with 21 points (8-of-18) as the Pride turned the ball over just seven times on the afternoon.

• Despite shooting 38% (11-of-29) in the opening half, Northeastern brought the energy in the opening 20 minutes, holding Hofstra to a 2-of-14 showing from deep to take a three-point lead at the break, 32-29.

• The Huskies used a 13-2 lead over nearly four minutes midway through the half, highlighted by a pair of threes from Strong and another from Walters to give the visitors a 23-16 edge with nine minutes left in the half.

• Hofstra hung in with a 13-2 run of its own to retake the lead with 4:08 remaining before Northeastern closed the first half on a 7-0 run, with five points coming from Doherty.Â

• Doherty and Telfort kept battling in the second half, scoring 15 and 11 points respectively over the final 20 minutes to lead a 59% shooting performance from the Huskies during the second half.Â

• NU went up by as many as 11 thanks to a 15-2 run over more than five minutes, capped by a jumper from
Quirin Emanga to give Northeastern a 54-43 lead with 9:46 to go.

• It was back and forth from there until a three from Strong, his fifth of the day, put the Huskies up by eight with 1:31 to play (73-65) before the tides turned. Hofstra would close the game on an 11-0 run, forcing three Northeastern turnovers along the way, to erase the deficit, retake the lead and give the Pride the victory.
