BOSTON – Nikola Djogo dropped a career-high 27 points to lead the Northeastern men's basketball team (7-20, 1-15), but the College of Charleston (15-12, 7-8) shot 58% from the field and had four players in double figures as the Cougars knocked off the Huskies on Tuesday night at Matthews Arena, 83-72.
Â
Djogo finished the night 10-of-15 from the floor, the second time this season that he's recorded 10 made field goals, as Northeastern shot 50% overall (25-of-50) and from deep (8-of-16). Djogo was joined in double figures by
Shaquille Walters (14 points, two steals) and
Jahmyl Telfort (11 points, three steals, two assists) for a Huskies team that saw
Chris Doherty limited to 19 minutes due to foul trouble.
Â
Charleston, meanwhile, was led by 19 points and eight rebounds from Dimitrius Underwood along with 18 from Reyne Smith.
Â
• Both teams were red hot in the first half, with the Huskies shooting 60% (15-of-25) and Charleston at 67% (18-of-27).Â
Â
• A 13-5 Charleston run midway through the half put the Cougars up 10 with 8:08 until halftime, Charleston's largest lead of the opening half, with Burnham and Smith doing the damage.
Â
• Northeastern wouldn't go away, though, and chipped away at the deficit thanks to 17 points from Djogo and 10 from Walters before going into the break down by a bucket, 43-41.
Â
• It stayed within two possessions for much of the second half, with neither team leading by more than five points for the first 14 minutes of the second half. The Cougars continued their hot shooting, going 14-of-28 from the floor over the final 20 minutes, and took the lead for good with 11:20 to go in regulation.
Â
• Northeastern, meanwhile, shot 40% in the second half (10-of-25) as Djogo continued to lead the way, but it was a 10-2 run followed by an 8-0 run that put Charleston ahead by double digits late.

The Huskies will be back in action on Thursday when Northeastern hosts William & Mary at 7 p.m. on NESN and FloHoops. Tickets are available by visiting NUHuskies.com/tickets.
