Frankel, Murphy Claim Hockey East Weekly Awards

AMESBURY, Mass.— Aerin Frankel and Maureen Murphy of the No. 3 Northeastern women's hockey team claimed weekly awards from Hockey East as announced on Monday. Murphy was named Co-Player of the Week, while Frankel earned Goaltender of the Week honors.

Both players were pivotal in the Huskies' 8-0 drubbing of Merrimack in the Hockey East Quarterfinal.

  • Murphy posted her fourth hat trick of the season and four points overall in the victory. Her hat trick was just the ninth-ever in a Hockey East playoff game and first since 2017.
  • The recently named First Team All-Star is riding a four-game point streak and her 27 goals sit tied for the second-best mark in the nation.
  • Murphy has now been named the Player of the Week six times in her career and five times this season.
Frankel Goaltender of the Week

Aerin Frankel- Hockey East Goaltender of the Week
  • Frankel tallied 18 saves en route to her NCAA-best 11th shutout of the season. The shutout was her third career Hockey East playoff shutout.
  • The victory marked Frankel's 100th career win, making her just the sixth woman in NCAA Division I history to reach the milestone.
  • Frankel has now earned 25 weekly accolades from Hockey East and this is her fifth time being named Goaltender of the Week since its inception at the start of the season.
Frankel, Murphy and the Huskies are back in action against Maine in the Hockey East Semifinals on Wednesday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. in Matthews Arena. The game will feature on NESN and is available for fans outside of New England to stream on CollegeSportsLive.
