BOX SCORE (PDF)

CLEMSON, S.C. -
The Northeastern baseball team (6-6-1, 0-0 CAA) fell to the no. 18-ranked Clemson Tigers (13-0, 0-0 ACC) by a score of 9-6 on Friday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

A tight game through the first four and a half innings, the Tigers broke open the game in the bottom of the fifth, and the Huskies were unable to make up the difference in game one of the weekend series.
  • NU's starter Cam Schlittler (1-3) kept Clemson at bay to start the game, allowing just two runs in the first four innings on four hits, one walk, and two K's.
  • Down by two, the Huskies tied the game up in the top of the fifth. After Luke Beckstein reached base on a lead-off walk, he was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Gregory Bozzo. A pair of RBI hits from Jeff Costello (double) and Justin Bosland (single) scored Beckstein and Costello, respectively, to tie the game up at 2-2.
  • The Clemson offense roared to life in the bottom of the frame, with five runs on three hits, taking a 7-2 lead.
  • The Huskies were able to chip away two runs from the lead in the top of the sixth, when Spenser Smith hit a hard ball to third base with the bases loaded, scoring Beckstein and Max Viera.
  • Clemson would tack those two runs back on in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run and an RBI sac-fly.
  • Northeastern was down to it's last inning, down 9-4 in the top of the ninth. The Huskies looked to start a rally after two passed balls got the leadoff hitter JP Olson to third base, and Jeff Costello hit him home with a sac-fly. A two-out double by Mike Sirota would score Bosland from second after he reached on a fielder's choice, but Clemson halted the comeback attempt at two runs.
The two teams will face off again Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
