BOSTON— For the second year in a row,
Aerin Frankel of the No. 2 Northeastern women's hockey team has been named the recipient of the Women's College Hockey Goalie of the Year Award as announced by the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association (WHCA) on Wednesday.
Â
It is the second year this award has been handed out and Frankel has been the honoree both times. Voting was carried out by a panel of coaches, administrators and members of the media from across the country.
Â
Frankel has once again continued to set the standard for goaltenders around the country. She is the lone goaltender in the Patty Kazmaier Top-10 finalists and set a new single-season program record with 11 shutouts. Her 11 shutouts and 25 wins are an NCAA-best this season.
Â
Frankel is second in the nation with a 1.06 goals against average and .956 save percentage. Both of those marks rank tops in the country among goaltenders with over 20 games played.
Â
The Briarcliff Manor, New York native ended her Hockey East career as the winningest goaltender of all-time in league play with 75 regular season victories. She finished her Hockey East tournament career a perfect 18-0 to lead the Huskies to five straight Hockey East titles.
Â
She was the Hockey East Goaltender of the Week seven times this season and was the Defender of the Week once. Frankel claimed Hockey East and National Goaltender of the Month honors twice.
Â
Frankel and the Huskies will take on Minnesota Duluth in the Frozen Four on Friday, March 18 at 3:30 p.m. in Pegula Ice Arena in State College, Pa.
