Northeastern Takes Two From Holy Cross

BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Northeastern baseball team (11-7-1, 0-0 CAA) took both games from Holy Cross (3-16, 0-0 Patriot League) winning 3-1 in game one, and 10-0 in game two in their double header at Friedman Diamond on Friday afternoon.

Game One-
  • Corey DiLoreto singled up the middle in the bottom of the first sending home Justin Bosland to give Northeastern an early lead.
  • Cam Schlittler would get the Huskies out of a jam in the top of the second tallying his second K of the day.
  • Mike Sirota walked in the bottom of the sixth, going on to steal second and third. 
  • Corey DiLoreto singled to send Sirota home for his second RBI of the day.
  • Luke Beckstein doubled to center field driving home DiLoreto giving NU a 3-0 lead.
  • Northeastern gave up a solo homer in the top of the seventh to cut the Crusaders deficit to two. 
  • Schlittler would finish the day with 5 hits, 1 run and 6 strikeouts, and his second win of the season (2-3).
  • Jordy Allard would enter the game for NU in the top of the 8th striking out his first batter faced.
  • RHP Thomas Balboni would close for the Huskies, striking out one batter, earning his second save of the season.

Game Two-
  • Jeff Costello got on base with an infield single after on the first pitch to start off the game strong.
  • Keane would strike out two batters swinging in first two opening innings.
  • Costello tripled in the bottom of the sixth with one out, looking to get on the board.
  • Sirota singled to third base, driving Costello home earning the Huskies their first run of game two.
  • DiLoreto singled to center field, moving Sirota to second.
  • Bosland would drive in Sirota giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead heading into the seventh inning.
  • Keane would finish the game with just 3 hits allowed, no runs allowed, while striking five batters in 6.0 innings of work.
  • Dennis Colleran entered the game for the Huskies pitching 2.0 innings striking out one batter.
  • Max Viera and Teddy Beaudet would both steal bases in the bottom of the seventh.
  • Viera scored on a wild pitch extending the lead 3-0.
  • Costello reached second on a fielder's choice and Beaudet would score on a throwing error.
  • Sirota notched a groundout double advancing Mark Darakjy to third, sending Costello home.
  • The Huskies tacked on another run on a wild pitch, scoring Darakjy.
  • Bosland had an RBI triple driving home DiLoreto.
  • Jack Doyle would pinch hit in the bottom of the eighth for Northeastern with a single to left field sending Spenser smith to second.
  • Costello would notch his second triple of the day, sending home Smith and Doyle giving the Huskies a 9-0 lead.
  • Ryan Cervone singled to right field, scoring Costello tacking on another run.
  • James Quinlivan would seal the deal for the Huskies notching a K to give the Huskies their third shutout of the season.

Northeastern will head to Brown University on Sunday with first pitch set for 3pm to wrap up the weekend of play.
