Huskies Win Sixth Straight After Defeating Brown 8-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In the second-to-last game of a five-game New England "home stand", the Northeastern Huskies (12-7-1) took down the Brown Bears (3-9) by a score of 8-2 on Sunday afternoon at Murray Stadium.

The win was Northeastern's sixth straight, as the Huskies are now 7-2-1 in the month of March.

  • Brown got on the board first with a two-out, solo shot to right field in the bottom of the first.
  • Both teams traded goose egg innings back and forth, as both defenses kept the score at 1-0.
  • Northeastern finally answered back in the top of the sixth; after a unassisted double play removed a baserunner, the Brown Bears seemed hold all momentum in the inning, but Mike Sirota hit a deep shot to the right field wall, scoring Jack Doyle from second base to tie the game 1-1.
  • The Huskies would take the lead in the top of the next inning. The bases were loaded thanks to a leadoff double from Justin Bosland, a walk to Luke Beckstein, and a bunt by JP Olson that forced a fielding error. The very next at-bat, Spenser Smith hit a deep single to left field, scoring Bosland and Beckstein for the 3-1 lead.
  • The next batter, Jack Doyle, laid down another bunt to advance the runners, and Jeff Costello hit both runners home with the one-out, three-run shot to right field.
  • The Bears tacked a run back on in the bottom of the eighth but the Huskies would answer back in the top of the ninth with an infield single by Corey DiLoreto, with Costello scoring on the play after a leadoff double by the senior and a wild pitch which allowed him to get to third.
  • Wyatt Scotti (5-0) retired 25 of the 27 batters he faced, allowing just four hits and two runs while striking out six through 8.0 innings of work. He was relieved by Owen Langan in the ninth, who struck out three batters in the final inning, allowing just one hit.

After starting off the season playing in the south, the Huskies are on a streak of six games in New England, with five home games – the final of which will take place this Tuesday, March 22 at Friedman Diamond in Brookline. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm on FloBaseball, as the Huskies take on Boston College.
