Northeastern Knocks Down No. 8 NC State 8-5

RALEIGH, N.C. - After a big 6-1 victory on Friday, the Northeastern baseball team (5-5, 0-0 CAA) once again took down No. 8 NC State (8-3, 0-0 ACC) with a score of 8-5 on Saturday afternoon in Raleigh.

Friday's win was Northeastern's first victory over a top-10 school in program history, and the win Saturday clinched a series win with the Wolf Pack.
  • Mark Darakjy got the offense going, singling up the middle in the top of the second, going on to steal second base.
  • Spenser Smith would walk, giving Northeastern two men on base with one out.
  • Luke Beckstein singled up the middle sending Darakjy and Smith home, and would then advance to second on an error by NC State.
  • NC State would get two back with an RBI single and run on the double play in the bottom fifth to tie the game 2-2.
  • Jeff Costello robbed NC State of a scoring opportunity with an unbelievable catch in right field in the bottom sixth.
  • Max Viera would double in the top seven and Darakjy would walk to get men on base for the Huskies.
  • With two men on base, Corey DiLoreto would double to left center, sending home Viera and Darakjy giving the Huskies a 4-2 lead.
  • Sebastian Keane pitched 6.0 strong innings for the Huskies striking out two batters, holding NC State to two runs and four hits.
  • Jordy Allard would enter the game for Northeastern striking out three batters in the bottom of the seventh.
  • With runners on the corners in the top eighth, Costello's base hit would add on another run sending Beaudet home.
  • Justin Bosland singled to first base with a bunt, pushing Costello to second, sending Beckstein home giving Northeastern a 6-2 lead. 
  • Sirota singled to left field advancing Bosland to third, driving in Costello.
  • Freshman Sirota advanced to second on an error allowing Bosland to tack on another run. The Northeastern lead was 8-2 after the high-scoring eighth.
  • NC State would get some life in the bottom of the eighth with a homer from Will Marcy sending two home. 
  • Owen Langan would enter the game and strike out a batter.
  • Dennis Colleran would close for the Huskies, keeping the NU lead at three runs and earning the save.

Northeastern will close out the series with NC State tomorrow at 12pm. The game can be streamed on ACC Network Extra. They then return to the Northeast for their home opener this Tuesday, March 8 at 3 p.m. at Friedman Diamond.
