HARRISONBURG, Va. – Despite a hot start, the Northeastern Huskies (17-16-1, 3-7 CAA) fell to the James Madison Dukes (18-5, 5-5 CAA) by a score of 8-3 in game one of their weekend set at Veteran's Memorial Park.

- The Huskies led off the game with back-to-back-to-back singles from their first three hitters Mike Sirota, Spenser Smith and Max Viera. Smith's hit sent Sirota to third and Viera's scored him for the 1-0 lead.
- The Dukes answered back in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run over the right field wall, followed by an RBI sacrifice bunt and RBI single, to lead 4-1.
- JMU tacked on two more runs in the third with two solo shots over the left field wall to make it 6-1.
- The Dukes pushed it to 8-1 in the sixth on an RBI double that snuck down the right-field line and a sacrifice bunt RBI.
- NU's starter Sebastian Keane (3-3) worked 5.1 innings, with 11 hits and eight runs.
- The Northeastern bullpen saw 2.2 innings of work from Owen Langan (1.2 IP) and Matt Devlin (1.0 IP) allowing just one hit between the two of them and striking out three batters each.
- Kyle Hoog notched his first career hit, getting a pinch hit single up the middle in the top of the ninth.
- Hoog's hit was the start of an attempted late rally, where Teddy Beaudet hit an infield single, and Jack Thorbahn hit a two-out RBI double to score Hoog and Beaudet.
- Sirota forced a walk to put two on base but JMU was able to end the game with a five-run lead.
