BOSTON – Under tough conditions with a strong headwind, the Northeastern men's rowing team retained the Arlett Cup over Boston University with a big victory in the first varsity on Saturday morning on the Charles River.

Since the Arlett Cup began in 1978, the Huskies have won 32 of the 44 races, including 15 of the last 20, and six of the last nine. 

• Senior Rhett Burns led the first varsity to a strong start, and the Huskies never looked back. Through the first 500 meters, Northeastern held a one length advantage over the Terriers, and the lead continued to grow the rest of the way. The Huskies maintained a solid rhythm throughout, and dominated in the second part of the race. Northeastern pulled ahead by about three boats length, and cruised to the finish line with a time of 6:23.5. 
• The Terriers finished with a time of 6:36.9, which marks Northeastern's biggest margin of victory in the Arlett Cup since 2002 (NU 6:39.0; BU 6:54.7*). 
• The Terriers got off to a quick start in the second varsity, and maintained a lead throughout. Led by sophomore Karim Kane, the Huskies struggled to overcome a three-quarters advantage right from the start. Boston University picked up speed in the final 500 meters, and crossed the finish line with a time of 6:42.4, 12 seconds ahead of the Huskies.
•  In the final race of the morning, sophomore Quinten Cohen stroked the third varsity to a clean start. The Huskies had a three-quarters length advantage through the first half of the race, while continuing to push the pace. Just shy of a lead by one length, the Huskies finished with a time of 6:42.8.

Northeastern will head to the PAC-12 Invitational on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10.
