Huskies Take Series Win Over Towson

BOX SCORE (PDF)

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Northeastern University baseball team (22-21-1, 6-8 CAA) took a series victory from Towson University (10-32, 1-13 CAA), winning game two by a score of 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.

The Huskies got a solid start from redshirt sophomore Cam Schlittler, who pitched all but one inning, and the offense supported him with three runs in the first four innings.

  • The Huskies once again struck first, this time in the second inning: JP Olson hit the team's 11th triple of the season as he scored Max Viera from first, who reached on a hit-by-pitch.
  • The very next pitch Olson ran home on the wild pitch to make it 2-0.
  • In the third, an infield fielders choice by Danny Crossen scored the third run – it was Olson again from third, who slid under the tag at home.
  • Luke Masiuk hit a one-out single to center field in the sixth inning and made it to third on two wild pitches. A dropped strike three allowed Justin Bosland to reach first and Masiuk to score from third, making it 4-0.
  • The Tigers would attempt to rally in the top of the eighth with an RBI single – they tallied another run while Luke Beckstein collected a grounder and stepped on second, and fired to Danny Crossen for the double play.
  • Northeastern put the lead back to four runs with a two-RBI single from Masiuk, who finished the day 2-for-4.
  • Cam Schlittler (W, 3-7) worked late into the game going 8.0 innings, allowing just two hits until the eighth inning. He would end the day with four hits allowed, two earned runs, and a walk, while striking out seven batters.
  • Thomas Balboni closed the game for the Huskies, walking two but getting out of the inning with no hits or runs.
  • This is Northeastern's second straight CAA series win at Friedman, taking two of three from Elon back in the beginning of April.
  • The Huskies have tallied six or more runs 16 times on the season - they are 13-3 when reaching the six-run mark.

The two teams finish up the series Sunday afternoon, May 1st, at 1pm at Friedman Diamond. The game will stream on FloBaseball.
