Huskies Sweep Tigers With 16-4 Win

BROOKLINE, Mass. – In the final game of the weekend, the Northeastern Huskies (23-21-1, 7-8 CAA) blew past the Towson Tigers (10-33, 1-14 CAA) by a score of 16-4 on Sunday afternoon at Friedman Diamond. The win clinched Northeastern's second weekend sweep of the season and its first CAA sweep of the season.
 
  • For the third game in a row the Huskies tallied the first runs of the game in the first two innings – in the second inning Luke Masiuk tallied a sac-fly RBI and Danny Crossen hit an RBI single up the middle to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • Towson tied it up in the third on an RBI triple followed by an RBI single.
  • The Huskies pulled ahead for good in the third on an RBI bunt from Corey DiLoreto, an attempted sacrifice bunt from Luke Beckstein that turned into two bags on the error, an RBI single by Max Viera, and a sacrifice fly by JP Olson to make it 6-2.
  • Northeastern tallied two mores runs in the fourth and fifth – in the fourth, an RBI double by Jeff Costello and an RBI single by Spenser Smith.
  • In the fifth, the Huskies' runs came from an RBI double by Luke Masiuk and an infield single by Danny Crossen to make it 10-2.
  • After the Tigers got one back in the sixth on an RBI groundout, the Huskies exploded for six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning highlighted by a three-run pinch-hit home run by Jack Thorbahn, his second of the season, making it 16-3.
  • Towson tacked on another run in the eighth on an RBI double, but the Huskies defense closed out the game from there.
  • Sebastian Keane (W, 4-4) got the start and went 6.0 innings, allowing just three runs off five hits. He walked one and struck out four.
  • Jordy Allard took the mound in the seventh and worked until the final inning – he allowed just one run on three hits, issuing no walks and getting one batter to strike out.
  • James Quinlivan got the nod in the top of the ninth and allowed no hits, striking out two.
  • Sixteen runs is the most the Huskies have scored since May 15th, 2021 against Delaware (26-4 Win).
  • The Huskies are 9-3 in Sunday games this season.
 
The Huskies will get the midweek off, playing their next game this Friday, May 6 at 3pm. They'll face the Hofstra Pride in the first of their three-game weekend series in Hempstead, New York – all three games will stream on FloBaseball.
