BROOKLINE, Mass. - In a back and forth battle late in the game, the Northeastern Huskies (26-24-1, 9-11 CAA) fell to the UNCW Seahawks (28-11, 12-8 CAA) by a score of 5-4 on Saturday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
The game featured two go-ahead two-out home runs in consecutive frames, ending with the Seahawks on top.
- The Huskies once again tallied the first runs of the game with a two-run bottom of the third. After one-out infield singles by Max Viera and Justin Bosland (bunt), Jeff Costello hit a single through the left side of the infield, scoring Viera for a 1-0 lead.
- A sacrifice fly from Corey DiLoreto on the next at-bat scored Bosland from third to give the Huskeis a 2-0 lead.
- Northeastern starting pitcher Cam Schlittler went 7.2 innings and struck out eight batters on the day, holding UNCW off the scoreboard until the seventh inning.
- The Seahawks tallied a solo home run in the seventh to cut the lead to one run, and took the lead on an RBI single and triple in the eighth, leading 3-2.
- Down to their final out of the eighth with a runner on, Jeff Costello hit a full-count pitch over the left field bullpen to give the Huskies a 4-3 lead going into the final frame. He scored Max Viera who singled earlier in the inning.
- Jordy Allard (L, 2-2) closed out the game with 1.1 IP, striking out two batters.Â
- The Seahawks answered Costello's homer in the top of the ninth with a two-out two-run home run to right-center to retake the lead for good, 5-4.
The Huskies and Seahawks will close out the weekend series on Sunday, May 15th at 1pm on FloBaseball. Ahead of the game, Northeastern will honor the game's graduating seniors ahead of first pitch.
