BOSTON – Junior Will Dempsey, freshman Braden Porterfield, and junior Alexander Abuhoff from the Northeastern men's rowing team have received invitations to the 2022 Under 23 National Team Selection Camp this summer. Athletes selected through the camp will represent the U.S. at the 2022 World Rowing Under 23 Championships on July 25-30 in Varese, Italy.
 
Northeastern Head Coach Justin Jones also headlines the men's sweep camp, as he will be coaching the athletes alongside Harvard Assistant Coaches Jesse Foglia and Patrick Lapage.
 
"I'm thrilled that our three invitees to the U23 Selection Camp will have the opportunity to try out for their first National Team," said Jones. "It's a strong list of invitees and I look forward to seeing Will, Alex and Braden compete against and with the best Americans in college rowing. It's a testament to their collective commitment to the sport that they are willing to spend their summer competing for a spot at the U23 World Championships, and it reflects the quality of athlete we are developing here at Northeastern as we work towards continued competitive distinction. I look forward to working with all three of these athletes though the duration of the camp and, hopefully, through competition at the U23 World Championships."
 
The trio has competed in Northeastern's varsity eight boat this season that took down four ranked opponents, highlighted by an upset over Stanford at the Pac-12 Challenge. The varsity boat also had a strong start to postseason action, winning the petite final in dominating fashion at Eastern Sprints, crossing the line ahead of second-place Wisconsin by open water with a time of 6:10.705.
 
The selection camp will begin between June 17-19, and run through July 10 at Harvard University.
