- The Cougars would chip away at the lead in the fifth with a 2-RBI single to center, and in the sixth with a solo shot over the left field wall to make it 6-3.
- The first eight runs of the game were scored with two outs.
- Relief pitcher Michael Gemma took over for Keane in the sixth inning and got out of the inning without allowing a run, inheriting one runner on first with no outs. He went 3.1 innings with no hits or runs allowed, with three walks and a strikeout.
- Thomas Balboni took the mound with two outs in the ninth and induced a fly out to Justin Bosland in center and a foul out to Buddy Mrowka on the third base side to clinch the 6-3 victory. Balboni earned his seventh save of the season.
