HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – In the final two games of the weekend, Northeastern University (25-22-1, 9-9 CAA), and Hofstra University (22-21, 12-9 CAA) split the Sunday double-header, with the Huskies taking game one 6-2, and the Pride taking game two 5-0.
With the early win, the Huskies have won their second straight CAA series, after winning Friday's contest 13-1. The Huskies now sit 9-9 in conference play after starting 1-5. The two wins on the weekend moved head coach
Mike Glavine up to 100 career CAA wins.
GAME ONE – BOX SCORE (PDF)
- The Huskies came out strong offensively to begin game one with a five-run first inning.
- After loading the bases on walks and a hit batsman, Max Viera hit a bloop single off the bag at third base, allowing Spenser Smith to score from third for the first run.
- A single from JP Olson scored Corey DiLoreto, and a wild pitch scored Luke Beckstein to make it 3-0.
- The next batter, Luke Masiuk, hit a shallow outfield single to score Viera to make it 4-0.
- Danny Crossen laid down a perfect bunt to advance the runners on a sacrifice, scoring Olson to make it 5-0.
- The Husky bats cooled off until the fourth when they pushed across their sixth run – it was a bases-loaded ground out, resulting in an RBI for Spenser Smith and a run for Danny Crossen.
- The Pride were able to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, but Northeastern's defense was able to hold them to just the two.
- Cam Schlittler (W, 4-7) pitched 6.0 innings in the seven-inning contest, allowing eight hits and one walk, but just two runs in the game, striking out four.
- Owen Langan got the nod in the ninth to close out the victory, retiring Hofstra on two fly outs and a ground out.
GAME TWO – BOX SCORE (PDF)
- The Huskies were unable to manufacture runs on their two hits in the opening two innings, and were held hitless between the third and seventh innings.
- Hofstra would do their damage late in the contest with two runs in the fifth on a fly out and RBI single, and three runs in the sixth on errors.
- Luke Masiuk finished game two as Northeastern's hitting leader going 2-for-3 in the late game.
- Sebastian Keane (L, 4-5) went 5.0 innings allowing four unearned runs – he allowed four hits and walked two, striking out four.
- Jordy Allard worked 2.0 releif innings with one unearned run on three hits, no walks, and four K's.
- Thomas Balboni came in for the bottom of the eighth and kept Hofstra off the scoreboard, allowing just one hit and one walk.
The Huskies will travel to Storrs, Connecticut on Tuesday to face off again with UConn at 6:05 p.m. – they return home for their final CAA home series this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 13-15 to host UNCW.
