No. 3 Women’s Hockey Opens 2022-23 Season

BOSTON— Coming off a second-straight Frozen Four appearance and fifth-straight Hockey East title last season, the No. 3 Northeastern women's hockey team is set to begin its 2022-23 campaign this weekend against LIU. The Huskies will host LIU in non-conference action at Matthews Arena on Friday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m.

Northeastern will be giving away replica banners during intermission at Friday's game and there will be a jersey sale during Saturday's game.

Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ and an international stream is available here.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. NEW DAWGS ON THE BLOCK: After losing 12 graduating seniors from the 2021-22 season, the Huskies welcomed 10 newcomers this offseason. Eight freshmen have joined the roster including Lily Shannon, Kristina Allard, Holly Abela, Mia Langlois, Jules Constantinople, Lily Brazis, Avery Anderson and Alyssa Antonakis. Additionally, transfers Maude Poulin-Labelle from Vermont and Taze Thompson from Harvard have joined the Huskies. Poulin-Labelle is the reigning Hockey East Co-Best Defender and All-American, while Thompson was an All-Rookie team selection in the ECAC last season.
  2. NICE TO 'C' YOU: Graduate student forward Alina Mueller has been named captain for the Huskies for the 2022-23 season. Mueller joins former Northeastern star Julia Marty '11 as the only Swiss-born captains for the Huskies. Joining Mueller in the 2022-23 leadership group, wearing an 'A' are Maureen Murphy, Mia Brown and Megan Carter.
  3. SHARKS ON ICE: The Sharks opened their season with two losses to then-No. 5 Minnesota Duluth by scores of 4-1 and 5-0. LIU goaltender Tindra Holm made a combined 114 saves over two games against the Bulldogs. Paula Bergström was the Sharks lone goal scorer on the weekend, with a power-play tally. The Sharks and Huskies have not previously met and Friday's matchup marks the first meeting between the two programs.

The Huskies will open Hockey East play with a home-and-home series against UConn beginning Friday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. in Matthews Arena.
