HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Junior Deja Bristol tallied a career-high 16 points, as the Northeastern women's basketball team (9-8, 4-2 CAA) used a big second and third quarter to cruise past host Hofstra (8-10, 2-5 CAA), 68-48, on Sunday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Complex.
Junior Derin Erdogan and graduate student JaMiya Braxton also had double-digit performances for the Huskies. Erdogan notched 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, three assists, and two steals. Braxton tallied 13 points, marking her third straight game in double-figures, and had two steals. Senior Jaelyn Batts also had a strong day with a season-high seven assists.
- The hosts got out to a quick 3-0 lead, but the Huskies responded right back with five straight, highlighted by a three-pointer from Braxton.
- A three-pointer from Erdogan put Northeastern up 10-7 at the 3:50 mark, but the Pride responded right back, eventually scoring the final four points of the frame to take a slim 13-12 lead into the second.
- After Hofstra went up 16-12, Erdogan tallied her second three of the game to cut the deficit to 16-15 at the 7:15 mark, followed by a Bristol layup to put the Huskies back up 17-16.
- Erdogan tallied another three to continue the run and put Northeastern up 21-16.
- The Huskies were stellar offensively in the quarter, shooting 72.7% (8-of-11), and 66.7% (4-of-6) from long range to take a 33-24 lead into halftime.
- Northeastern continued to be strong from beyond the arc to start the third, as threes from Erdogan and Braxton helped balloon the visitors lead to 13 points at 41-29 just over three minutes in.
- Junior Halle Idowu tallied a three to extend the advantage to 46-32 a few minutes later,
- Bristol was dominant in the paint in the final minutes of the third, tallying three baskets during that stretch to help lead the Huskies to a 54-34 advantage heading into the final frame.
- The scoring continued for Northeastern in the fourth, as sophomore Camille Clement tallied a three that was then followed up by a layup from freshman Oralye Kiefer to push the lead to a game-best 27 points at 65-38 with 4:58 to go.
- Kiefer then tallied another layup in the final seconds of the contest to seal the win.
- The Huskies led in nearly every statistical category including points in the paint (26-12), bench points (29-13), second chance points (11-7), fast break points (9-0), steals (12-6), assists (18-10) and rebounds (35-32)
- Northeastern was on fire from the floor, going 26-48 (54.2%) overall and 10-18 (55.6%) from deep.
- Defensively, the Huskies held the Pride to just 31% shooting (18-of-58) overall and 29.6% from three (8-of-27).
