No. 7 Northeastern Welcomes Holy Cross to Matthews Arena

BOSTON— The No. 7 Northeastern women's hockey team will host the Holy Cross Crusaders on Friday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in Matthews Arena. The game will stream live on ESPN+.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. LOCK IT DOWN: Northeastern's defensive prowess is once again on full display this season. The Huskies have the top scoring defense in the country (.88). The Huskies are allowing just 20.1 shots on goal per game and have held opponents under 15 shots eight times. Against Merrimack on Oct. 14 the Huskies allowed the Warriors just four shots on goal for a season low. On special teams, the Huskies' penalty kill has allowed just six power-play tallies, while also posting six shorthanded goals.
  2. GWYN-YTHING IS POSSIBLE: Senior Gwyneth Philips leads the nation in wins (23) and shutouts (8). She was named to the Hockey Commissioner Association's Women's Goalie of the Year Watchlist. Philips owns a 23-2-1 record this season. The Athens, Ohio native owns a .81 GAA and .959 save percentage rank second nationally, with the goaltender above Philips playing just under 1000 minutes less than her.
  3. PURPLE RAIN: Northeastern will close out its three-game Hockey East series against the Crusaders on Friday. The Huskies defeated Holy Cross, 2-1 in Matthews Arena and 5-2 at the Hart Center Rink. The Crusaders most recently defeated Merrimack, 5-1, to snap a two-game losing streak. Mary Edmonds leads the Crusaders with 13 points. Madison Beck has played the bulk of the minutes for Holy Cross, owning a 2.50 GAA and .924 save percentage.
Up next, the Huskies will host New Hampshire for their annual Skating Strides game on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m.
