BOX SCORE (PDF)

BOSTON – The Northeastern women's basketball team (7-7, 2-1 CAA) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back en route to a dominating 92-51 victory over visiting UNCW (3-11, 0-3 CAA) on Sunday afternoon at Cabot Center.

Graduate student JaMiya Braxton tallied a team-high 16 points as the hosts led by as much as 42 in the fourth, and had 13 players make at least one field goal.
  • The Huskies set the tone early as the first eight points of the game were all in the paint, four from junior Deja Bristol and two each from juniors Halle Idowu and Derin Erdogan to go up 8-2 just three minutes in.
  • The lead continued to grow, as the Huskies started 9-of-14 from the field, and built a 22-7 advantage.
  • Overall, Northeastern shot 12-of-18 from the field in the first quarter, scoring 13 points off nine UNCW turnovers, had 20 pints in the paint, and led 29-10 heading into the second frame.
  • The 29 points were the most points scored in any quarter this year for NU, eclipsing the 25-point second quarter against Harvard on December 5.
  • Erdogan led all scorers in the first with 11 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting, including draining her only three attempt and both free throws.
  • Overall, eight of the nine Huskies who saw action in the first quarter scored at least one point.
  • Idowu hit a layup and the foul, junior Amyrah Sapenter nailed a trey and Braxton hit a mid-range jumper to extend the lead to 37-10 just four minutes into the second quarter.
  • The Huskies continued to pour it on as a Braxton corner three gave the hosts 28-point lead at 50-22 with just over 30 seconds left in the half, and they would eventually take a 50-24 lead into the break.
  • Northeastern shot 9-of-15 (60%) in the second quarter, to give them a blistering 63.6% shooting percentage on 21-of-33 shooting.
  • Nine of the ten Huskies who played in the half made a field goal, with eight of those making at least two.
  • The 50 points were the most scored by the Huskies in any half this season, topping the 44 scored in the first half against Harvard, and the most points in any half since scoring 50 in the first half at College of Charleston on February 24, 2017.
  • After the Seahawks scored the first three points of the third quarter, Northeastern ripped off a 13-0 run, starting with eight points in 80 seconds after sophomore Asha Parker got a layup, Sapenter stole the ball moments later and fed sophomore Gemima Motema for a layup, and then Idowu stole the ensuing inbounds pass and finished the open layup to suddenly make it 56-27.
  • The lead would get as large as 36 at 63-27 on a Braxton three with 4:56 left in the quarter.
  • The Seahawks would get the next six points, but the hosts would respond with eight straight, capped by a fast break layup by freshman Oralye Kiefer to make it 74-33 with 25 seconds left in the third.
  • The Huskies had another hot shooting quarter in the third, going 11-of-17 (64.7%) from the field as they took a 74-35 lead into the final 10 minutes.
  • Braxton hit a three to start the fourth to give NU a game-best 42-point lead (77-35).
  • The fourth quarter saw multiple additional Huskies get on the score sheet, including sophomore Camille Clement, senior Anna Boruta and junior Izzy Larsen.
  • The 92 points were the most scored by Northeastern in a CAA game since an 88-74 win at Cabot over William and Mary on January 6, 2019, and it was the largest margin of victory for the program against a CAA opponent.
  • It was the first time the Huskies scored 90+ since a 98-95 OT loss vs. Providence on November, 14. 2017, and the largest win since a 94-53 victory over Rhode Island on January 3, 2013.
The Huskies will hit the road to take on North Carolina A&T on Friday, January 13, and then Elon on Sunday, January 15.
