DEDHAM, Mass. — The Northeastern field hockey team (6-7, 2-2 CAA) battled back from a 3-0 deficit but fell to the No. 12 Boston College Eagles (9-5, 1-3 ACC) at Dedham Field Tuesday afternoon.
- The Eagles got on the board first with a goal in the first quarter, taking a 1-0 lead. They added two more goals in the second and went into the half with a 3-0 lead.
- Northeastern bounced back first with a goal from junior forward Lilly Smith, who scored off a rebound on a penalty corner 1:52 into the third quarter. It was her fifth goal of the season and third in two games after scoring twice against Monmouth Friday, Oct. 13.
- Junior forward Mak Graves provided the next goal for Northeastern, tipping in a shot from graduate student Lauren Rowe to make it 3-2 Boston College with 10:56 remaining in the contest.
- The combination of Graves and Rowe struck again just 1:26 later, as Graves tipped in another Rowe shot and tied the game with 9:30 left to play. It was Graves' fifth goal of the season and Rowe's seventh assist, tying her for most on the Huskies with senior forward Sarah Coyle.
- Boston College scored the winner with 1:11 to play, however, and the Huskies' upset bid was halted.
Next, Northeastern has a chance to clinch its sixth consecutive CAA Championships appearance with a win over Hofstra Friday, Oct. 20 at Dedham Field. The pass back is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be streaming on both NESN and FloSports.
