Huskies Set To Race At The Head Of The Charles

BOSTON – The Northeastern men's rowing team is set to race at the Head of the Charles on Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22. The Huskies will have two boats competing on Saturday in the men's club 8+ at 1:29 p.m. and two boats in the men's championship 8+ on Sunday at 1:57 p.m.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

LAST TIME AT THE HEAD OF THE CHARLES - Northeastern's first varsity boat had a strong performance in the championship eight, finishing fourth collegiately (sixth overall) with a time of 13:42.881. The Huskies finished ahead of tough opponents in Washington, Brown, Dartmouth, Princeton, Wisconsin, Boston University and Stanford.
2023-24 CAPTAINS – James Cartwright and Will Dempsey were named captains for the Huskies ahead of this upcoming season. Both are stepping into the leadership positions for the first time in the Husky careers. Cartwright and Dempsey both were integral pieces to the first varsity boat this past season, that finished sixth overall at the IRA Championships, and took down rival Harvard in the final meters in the semifinals. Cartwright competed in the six seat for the majority of the season, and Dempsey was coxswain.
PORTERFIELD EARNS BRONZE AT U23'S – Junior Braden Porterfield won bronze with the US 4+ to highlight six student-athletes from Northeastern who closed out competition at the U23 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Porterfield and the US 4+ battled with Great Britain for the second and third spots, with Great Britain taking silver in a photo finish. Italy won gold with a time of 6:09.19, Great Britain finished at 6:12.00, and the US fought until the very end in a tightly contested race, crossing the line at 6:12.76.

The Huskies will close out their fall campaign with the Foot of the Charles on Saturday, November 11.
