BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Northeastern volleyball team (9-8, 7-4 CAA) fell to Campbell (11-10, 8-3 CAA) in three sets on Saturday afternoon at Gilbert Craig Gore Arena.
- Set One: Both teams traded points to start, with neither leading by more than one. After the Huskies led 6-5, Campbell tallied five straight points to pull in front at 10-6. A few points later, Northeastern went on a 3-0 run, capped off by a kill by Defne Arliel to trim the deficit to 12-10. The Camels responded back with the three straight points of their own to lead 15-10. The Huskies answered with eight of the next 12 points to trim the deficit to 19-18, but Campbell remained ahead. Back-to-back kills from Julianna Truscott and Anabel Zier knotted the frame up at 21, but Campbell notched four of the next five points to take the set at 25-22.
- Set Two: The Huskies got off to an early 5-2 lead, but the Camels immediately knotted the score up with three straight points. The teams traded points for most of the frame, with neither leading by more than two. Back-to-back kills from Truscott gave the Huskies a 15-13 lead, and the Huskies continued to hold onto the momentum to extend the advantage to 18-13. Down the stretch, the hosts fought back with four straight points to trim the deficit to 20-19. The Camels knotted the score up at 21 and tallied four of the next six points to take the set 25-23.
- Set Three: The Huskies got off to a 7-1 lead, but the Camels fought back to eventually tie the frame up at nine. The teams went back and forth trading points, with neither leading by more than two. The Camels pulled ahead at 16-14 and continued to hold onto a lead. Campbell ultimately took the set at 25-17.
- Truscott, Zier, and Arliel each tallied seven kills.
- Truscott led the Huskies with 14 digs.
- Jessica Frannea dished out 28 assists.
- Marika Virthe chipped in with six kills and a team-high four blocks.
- Tessa Onaga had 13 digs and five assists.
The two teams will face again on Sunday, October 22. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
