BOSTON – Paced by 11 kills on .588 hitting from
Anabel Zier, the Northeastern volleyball team (10-9, 8-5 CAA) took down College of Charleston (9-15, 6-7 CAA) in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at the Cabot Center.
- Set One: Charleston got off to a 2-0 lead, but the Huskies immediately responded back to knot the score up after a kill from Defne Arliel and an ace from Tessa Onaga. Both teams traded points for most of the set, with neither leading by more than two. Knotted up at 14, back-to-back errors by the Cougars gave the Huskies a 16-14 advantage, and Northeastern remained in front the rest of the way. Two kills from Julianna Truscott helped the Huskies increase their lead to 23-20 down the stretch, and Northeastern took the set at 25-22. As a team, Northeastern hit .370 in the frame.
- Set Two: Northeastern got off to a 5-1 lead, capped off by back-to-back kills from Zier. Charleston fought back though, tallying five of the next six points to knot the score up at six. Both teams traded points, until back-to-back aces by Sahitya Krishnamurthy gave the Huskies a 10-8 advantage. Northeastern continued to hold onto the momentum the rest of the way, notching four straight points down the stretch to lead 21-14, and took the set at 25-18.
- Set Three: Charleston led 3-0 to start the frame, but the Huskies tallied the next three points to tie the score right back up. A few points later while knotted up at six, Northeastern went on a 9-0 run, capped off by an ace from Arliel to take a commanding 15-6 lead. The Huskies continued to push the pace, extending their lead to 22-9 after six straight points, and didn't look back the rest of the way. A kill by Marika Virthe gave the Huskies set point at 24-11, and Arliel sealed the win with a kill at 25-14. Northeastern held the Cougars to .029 hitting in the frame.
- Zier also had a team-high six blocks.
- Onaga tallied a team-high 12 digs, two aces, and four assists.
- Truscott notched eight kills, six digs, and two blocks.
- Abby Reck also had eight kills.
- Arliel chipped in with seven kills and 11 digs.
- Inbal Peleg dished out a team-high 28 assists.
- The Huskies had 10 aces in the match compared to none for the Cougars.
- Northeastern outblocked Charleston, 10 to two.
The two teams will face again on Sunday, October 29. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. and will stream on FloVolleyball/NESN.
