Kristina Merashoff made a career-high nine saves and freshman forward
Alex Mega scored a late go-ahead goal as the Northeastern field hockey team (6-6, 2-1 CAA) took down reigning conference champion Delaware (5-8, 1-3 CAA) 2-1 at Dedham Field Friday afternoon.
- The Huskies' win is their first over the Blue Hens since 2012. Delaware had beaten the Huskies 13 straight times until Friday night's Northeastern victory.
- Merashoff had to face nine penalty corners from the Blue Hens in the final period, but managed to turn away every opportunity.
- The Huskies got on the board first in the second quarter, after junior forward Mak Graves tipped in her third goal of the season from graduate student Lauren Rowe on a penalty corner to make it 1-0.
- Delaware evened it up after earning a penalty corner as time expired in the first half and scoring off it.
- Mega's go-ahead goal came off a back-handed rocket into the top left corner of the cage, putting the Huskies ahead 2-1 in the fourth quarter with 11:10 left to play in the contest. It was her seventh of the season, tied for most on the team and third in the CAA, and she was assisted by junior midfielder Lilly Smith.
Following the win, the Huskies will travel to Monmouth Friday, Oct. 13 for a 4 p.m. matchup at So Sweet A Cat Field in West Long Branch, N.J. It will be streaming on FloSports.
