BOSTON – Abby Reck tallied a team-high eight kills, but the Northeastern volleyball team (9-6, 5-2 CAA) fell to Delaware (11-4, 4-3 CAA) in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at the Cabot Center.
- Set One: Both teams traded points to start, with neither leading by more than two. Tied at seven, Delaware tallied four straight points to take an 11-7 advantage. Northeastern fought back with five straight points after the Blue Hens led 18-13 to knot the frame up, but Delaware pulled back in front. A kill by Julianna Truscott knotted the score up at 21, but Delaware tallied four of the next five points to take the set at 25-22.
- Set Two: Delaware stormed out to a 12-3 lead and didn't look back. Three straight points by the Huskies capped off by an ace by Pono Gacutan made it 17-11, but Delaware responded right back. The Blue Hens hit .351 in the frame, and took the set 25-16.
- Set Three: Both teams went back and forth up until the fifth point. Knotted up at five, Delaware tallied seven of the next eight points to extend its advantage to 12-6. An ace by Reck trimmed the deficit to 21-15 down the stretch, but the Blue Hens took the set 25-16. Delaware hit .281 in the frame.
- Truscott chipped in with five kills and a block.
- Nyla Shepherd tallied three blocks.
- Delaware outhit Northeastern .260 to .090 in the match.
The two teams will face each other again on Sunday, October 8. First serve is slated for 2 p.m., and will stream on FloVolleyball/NESN.
