Huskies Suffer First Loss Of The Season At BC

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Despite a strong three-point shooting performance, the Northeastern Huskies (2-1) fell to the Boston College Eagles (2-1) by a score of 67-58 on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum.

Derin Erdogan and Maddie Vizza led the way for Northeastern, with 15 and 12 points respectively – Vizza was a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc, while Erdogan added in two long shots of her own. As a team, Northeastern shot 69% from long range, but were unable to complete the comeback in the fourth quarter.

  • The Eagles held the early advantage after a 6-0 run late in the first quarter gave them a 16-10 lead entering the second quarter.
  • The Huskies responded with a strong second quarter outscoring the Eagles 18-11 to take the lead at halftime, 28-27.
  • The second quarter featured a 7-0 run spurred by back to back threes by Oralye Kiefer and a 5-0 run to end the half with back-to-back buckets from Derin Erdogan, her last bucket coming with just two seconds left on the clock.
  • Northeastern shot 50% from the field in the second quarter (5-for-10) and 66% from behind the arc (2-for-3) to reclaim the lead.
  • BC responded in the second half, taking a 36-31 lead off a 5-0 run midway through the third quarter.
  • The Huskies battled back, and with a big three from Yirsy Queliz and another late basket from Erdogan, cut the lead to four points heading into the final quarter.
  • Boston College ran away with it to start the final quarter on a 10-4 run that Northeastern was never able to rebound from.
  • Both teams struggled with turnovers in the early going, but Boston College finished the game with 33 points off turnovers to Northeastern's 10.
  • The Huskies out-rebounded the Eagles 37-32, including 14 offensive boards.

The Huskies return home to the Cabot Center for two straight home games this Thursday, November 16 against Merrimack, and next Tuesday, November 21 against Wagner. Both games tip off at 8 p.m. and will stream on NESN+ and FloHoops.
