Huskies Outpace Warriors, 58-47



BOSTON – The Northeastern University women's basketball team (3-1) defeated the Merrimack College Warriors (0-4) by a score of 58-47 on Thursday evening at the Cabot Center.
 
Led by point guard Derin Erdogan with a game-high 17 points and Deja Bristol with 12 points and five rebounds, the Huskies had an all-around strong offensive performance with six Huskies scoring five or more points in the contest and six grabbing three or more rebounds.
 
  • Northeastern held a 16-9 lead after the first quarter, ending the opening frame on a 10-0 run with buckets from Gemima Motema, Deja Bristol, and free throws by Motema and Halle Idowu.
  • The Warriors responded in the second quarter with a 12-0 run of their own to take the lead 25-23 with under two minutes until halftime.
  • The Huskies were able to reclaim the lead just before halftime with a three from Erdogan in the final minute.
  • NU strung together another 10-0 run to begin the second half, including long-range shots from Erodgan and Asha Parker
  • The Huskies out-shot Merrimack 40% to 29.4% in the third to lead by six heading into the final quarter.
  • Northeastern was able to put the game away in the fourth on 5-for-11 (45.5%) shooting to outscore Merrimack 30-22 total in the second half.
  • The Huskies played a disciplined game, only giving Merrimack five free throw opportunities in the contest.
  • Erdogan led all scorers for the second straight game, after tallying a game-high 15 points against Boston College on Sunday. Erdogan finished the night 6-for-16 (37.5%) with three three-pointers.
  • The duo of Gemima Motema and Asha Parker led the Huskies with six rebounds each.
 
The Huskies return to the Cabot Center this Tuesday, November 21 for a non-conference game with Wagner. That game tips off at 8 p.m. on NESN+ and FloHoops.
