BOSTON – Paced by 21 points by senior guard
Maddie Vizza, the Northeastern women's basketball team (4-1) defeated the Wagner Seahawks (0-4), 63-46, on Tuesday evening at the Cabot Center.
Vizza had a masterful three-point shooting display for Northeastern, accounting for seven of the team's 11 makes from beyond the arc. The senior's seven threes tied a career-high and a program record. Vizza last reached the milestone in 2021, when she became the first NU freshman to hit seven or more threes in a game for the Huskies.
Northeastern was also led by 12 points and five rebounds from junior forward
Asha Parker, and 10 points from junior guard
Gemima Motema. Sophomore
Oralye Kiefer also was strong for the Huskies with seven points and led on the boards with seven rebounds.
- The Huskies got off to a strong start in the first, storming out to a 7-2 lead after a three from Vizza. Northeastern didn't look back in the frame, outscoring the Seahawks 6-3 down the stretch to lead 13-5.
- Northeastern shot 42.9% (6-of-14) overall in the first compared to 15.4% (2-of-13) by Wagner.
- The Huskies came out firing from long range in the second, with Vizza tallying her second three of the game to extend Northeastern's advantage to 18-8 at the 7:50 mark.
- Wagner trimmed the deficit to 20-16, but back-to-back threes by Kiefer and Motema ballooned the lead back up to double-digits at 26-16.
- The Huskies shot 57.1% (4-of-7) from beyond the arc and took a 31-19 lead into halftime.
- Vizza continued her dominance from long range, tallying her third three of the game at the start of the third to extend the advantage to 34-19.
- A few minutes later, six straight points with three each coming from Parker and Deja Bristol gave Northeastern a 42-28 lead.
- Vizza tallied her fourth three at the 1:34 mark, and Northeastern led 45-36 heading into the fourth.
- Vizza capped off the night 3-of-4 from three in the final frame to seal the win.
The Huskies will head to New York City to face the Columbia Lions on Saturday, November 25. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
