Â
Doherty did most of his damage in the second half, scoring 18 points over the final 20 minutes of regulation, including a pair of threes to reach double-digits for the fourth time in six games.
Â
The Marlborough, Mass. native was joined by
Jared Turner's career-high 19 points thanks to five made threes and a 4-of-5 showing from the stripe.
Rashad King (13),
Masai Troutman (13) and
Joe Pridgen (10) also had productive days, marking the second time this season that five players have reached double-figures and helping the Huskies crack the 90-point plateau for the first time since Nov. 19, 2019.Â
Â
Northeastern got to the line early and often, finishing 20-of-27 overall and a perfect 9-of-9 in the second half to keep the Eagles at bay.
Â
After a tight opening first few minutes of the contest, Northeastern began to take control as Turner got it going from three to give the Huskies an 11-point lead at the Under-8 before taking a 42-34 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Â
Out of the break, Northeastern maintained its lead despite Georgia Southern climbing within nine with less than eight minutes to play, but Doherty would keep Northeastern in control, scoring 15 points over the final 8:16 of regulation to put the game out of reach.
Â
The Huskies will head back on the road for a Saturday matinee at No. RV/RV Princeton. Tip-off from Jadwin Gymnasium is set for 2 p.m on ESPN+.
