PRINCETON, N.J. – Thirty points from Xaivian Lee and a 12-2 run over the final 3:24 of regulation gave No. RV/RV Princeton (6-0) an 80-66 victory over the Northeastern men's basketball team (3-4) on Saturday afternoon at Jadwin Gymnasium.
Â
The Huskies were in the game all afternoon, leveling the contest at 40 early in the fourth quarter and trailing by just six with three minutes to play thanks to a career-high 21 points from
Harold Woods, but an 8-0 Princeton run down the stretch would give the hosts the victory.
Â
Woods was joined in double figures by
Joe Pridgen (13 points, four rebounds, three assists) and
Jared Turner (12 points on 4-of-8 shooting) for a Northeastern squad that finished 50% from the floor and 10-of-11 from the line.
Â
Lee finished 11-of-21 on the afternoon, including 3-of-5 from three to go along with six rebounds and four assists to pace the Tigers. Matt Allocco added 18 points as Princeton shot 28-of-57 overall, 9-of-24 from deep and turned the ball over just six times.
Â
It was an evenly played opening 20 minutes, with both teams shooting better than 48% and neither leading by more than seven points before Princeton took a 35-30 lead into the locker room.
Â
Woods was the story for Northeastern, going 5-of-6 over 13 minutes to lead the Huskies with 11 points, and was joined by Turner with nine including his second four-point play conversion in as many games.
Â
The Tigers, meanwhile, used a 12-2 run over 5:38 to take its biggest lead of the half at 22-15 with less than eight minutes to go until recess before Northeastern closed the half strong. Lee finished the half with 16 points on 5-of-9 overall and 3-of-4 from deep to pace a Princeton team that was 13-of-27 overall and 4-of-11 from long range before the break.
Â
It was back and forth to start the second half as the Huskies battled back to tie the game at t40 with 16:28 to go on free throws from Woods, bit a subsequent 16-6 Princeton run over the next 4:25 gave the Tigers the lead for good.
Â
Northeastern wouldn't go away, though, cutting the deficit to as little as five with 4:42 to go after back-to-back threes from Pridgen and
Luka Sakota (five points) , but that's as close as the Huskies would get as Princeton scored 10 of the game's final 12 points to put it away.
Â
The Huskies will be back in New Jersey on Wednesday when Northeastern takes on Seton Hall. Tip-off at the Prudential Center is set for 6:30 p.m. on FS2.
