NEW YORK – Derin Erdogan tallied a team-high 13 points, but it wasn't enough as the Northeastern women's basketball team (4-2), fell to the Columbia Lions (3-4), 88-45, on Saturday at Levien Gymnasium.
- The hosts got off to a quick 2-0 lead, but Deja Bristol responded back with a layup to knot the score right up.
- Bristol made another layup to tie the score up at four, but Columbia went on a 6-0 run to pull ahead at 10-4 at the 7:16 mark.
- A 7-0 run down the stretch gave Columbia a 19-9 lead, and the Lions shot 73.3% overall (11-of-15) to take an 28-11 advantage into the second.
- The Huskies got off to a strong start in the second with a 5-1 run, capped off by an and one play by Oralye Kiefer to trim the deficit to 29-16 at the 7:28 mark.
- Columbia continued to push the pace though, as the hosts tallied 10 straight points to lead 44-21 with 2:53 to go in the frame.
- Maddie Vizza and Erdogan notched back-to-back threes to cut the deficit to 44-27, but the Lions answered with six straight to take a 50-27 advantage into halftime.
- Columbia tallied four straight points in the first minute of the third to lead 54-27.
- A few minutes later, a three from Yirsy Quéliz ended another 4-0 run by the hosts, but Columbia took a 65-36 lead into the fourth.
- The Lions shot 64.3% (9-of-14) in the final frame to seal the win.
- Columbia tallied 52 points in the paint compared to 22 for Northeastern.
The Huskies will remain on the road to face New Hampshire on Wednesday, November 29. Tip-off is slated for 6:03 p.m.
