DURHAM, N.H. - Derin Erdogan tallied a team-high 12 points, but the Northeastern women's basketball team (4-3) fell to the New Hampshire Wildcats (3-5), 51-41, on Wednesday evening at Lundholm Gymnasium.
Northeastern also had strong performances from
Asha Parker, who tallied double-digits for the Huskies with 10 points and tied a team-high with eight rebounds, and
Yirsy Queliz with nine points, two steals, and two assists.
- The Wildcats got off to an early 6-1 advantage, but Parker responded back with a layup to immediately trim the deficit to 6-3.
- Quéliz tallied a jumper at the 3:13 mark to cut the lead to 8-7, but the Wildcats ended the frame on an 11-0 run to lead 19-7.
- The Wildcats were strong from beyond the arc to start the second, extending their lead to 25-10 after back-to-back threes.
- An and-one play by Gemima Motema trimmed the deficit to 25-13 with 5:38 to go, but New Hampshire continued to remain ahead.
- The Wildcats shot 42.9% from three (3-of-7) and led 34-16 at halftime.
- A three by Parker got the Huskies started in the third, trimming the New Hampshire lead to 36-19.
- Northeastern's defense stood its ground in the frame, holding New Hampshire to seven points, but the Wildcats took a 41-26 advantage into the fourth.
- The Huskies got off to a fast start in the fourth on an 8-2 run, capped off by back-to-back baskets by Parker to trim the deficit to 43-34.
- With three minutes to go, layups from Quéliz and Erdogan made it 45-39, but New Hampshire ultimately put the game back out the reach with free throws to seal the win.
- The Wildcats tallied 24 points off turnovers compared to 13 by Northeastern.
The Huskies will head to Syracuse, New York to face the Orange on Monday, December 4. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. and will stream on ACCNX.
