VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Northeastern men's track and field program won the inaugural CAA Indoor Track and Field Championships today at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
After landing in second place following the first day of competition and trailing by 11 points, the Huskies put together four gold medals, three silver medals and a bronze to overtake Monmouth and the rest of the field, winning the championship by 16 points. The Huskies won two of the final three events of the day to cement their spot at the top of the leaderboard.
Starting off the championship day for the Huskies was
Jordan Spencer in the triple jump with a 14.10m mark to secure a silver medal. Spencer earned eight points for Northeastern with the performance.
Paul Wisnaskas followed in the pentathlon with a total score of 4,645 to earn the silver medal for the Huskies, as well as eight team points.
Ethan Exilhomme started the gold medal trend for the Huskies when he tied his school record in the 60m hurdles at 7.71 to claim the title and the gold medal. Exilhomme also added a bronze medal in the 200m with a time of 21.36. The sophomore earned a team-high 16 points.
Noah Sweeney added on another when he tied his own personal best of 6.76 to grab the 60m title and the gold medal for Northeastern. Sweeney also finished fourth in the 200m at 21.39, earning 15 points for Northeastern throughout the competition.
Reed Cherry pitched in the third and final silver medal for the Huskies, running the 800m in 1:49.39 to earn the second-place finish. Cherry earned eight points in the race.
Benjamin Godish won the 3000m title with a time of 8:13.54 to give the Huskies their third gold medal of the day. Godish got the Huskies 10 points with the first-place finish.
The 4x800 relay team cemented the championship for the Huskies by earning a gold medal in the second to last event. The group of

Anders Narita, and Cherry took the title with a time of 7:37.31. The quartet tallied 10 points onto Northeastern's total.
TRACK EVENTS:
- In the 1-mile race, Kyle Sarney finished seventh and earned two points for the Huskies with a time of 4:11.22. Patrick Cantlon earned a point with an eighth-place finish at 4:11.70.
- Cory Gathier picked up five points for Northeastern with a fourth-place finish in the 60m hurdles at 8.11. Savion Thompson picked up two points with a seventh place finish at 8.49.
- Phillips Magre finished in fifth in the 400m dash at 48.33, earning four points, while Gathier finished sixth at 48.34 and earned three more.
- Brogan finished fourth in the 800m at 1:51.65 and chipped in five points for the Huskies.
- Magre put on another point for the Huskies with his eighth-place finish in the 200m at 22.13.
- The Huskies gained a crucial number of points when they need it most in the 3000m. Matthew Schaefer finished fourth and earned five points at 8:17.44, Patrick Mullen came in fifth and earned four points at 8:18.62 and Patrick Cullen came in seventh, earning two points at 8:19.11. Overall, the Huskies earned 21 points from the 3000m event alone including the victory from Godish.
- Closing out the night for the Huskies was the 4x400 team of Jessie Legister, Magre, Nii Yarboi Yartey, and Pierre Sylvain finished fifth and earned four points for the Huskies.
FIELD EVENTS:
- More points were tallied for the Huskies in the men's triple jump with Thompson earning four with a mark of 13.60m and Emanuele Dokyi grabbing two points with a mark of 13.23m.
- Ryan Sewell secured three points in the shot put with a mark of 14.28m.
- In the high jump, Magre, Wisnaskas and Dokyi all secured two points for their identical 1.90m marks.
- Collin Haj Abed tallied three team points for the Huskies in the pentathlon, finishing at an even 4,000.
The Huskies will be back in competition for the ECAC/IC4A Championships at the Track at New Balance from Mar. 3-5.
